Main Four Parameters for Successful Production of Mushrooms.

To become a successful mushroom cultivator many factors should be put into consideration, and of course, the main factor being hygiene. Despite most cultivators observing a high level of hygiene, they end up producing low-quality mushrooms which are difficult to market. We believe most of these crucial aspects needs serious consideration or farmers aren’t aware of them.

Below we will discuss four main parameters that we overlook during mushroom cultivation at the inoculation and fruiting stages.

Temperatures

For mycelium to establish and colonize the substrate, meet the temperatures of between (20-24c). Remember a dark environment has to be provided to facilitate the colonization of the substrate by the mycelium. During the fruiting stage, transfer the fully colonized substrate to the fruiting room. Depending on the mushroom variety, maintain temperatures at (10-32 degrees Celsius).

Light

After the substrate fully colonizes, provide the light into the room, or you can transfer the mushroom to the fruiting room for production to start. Light triggers the “pinning” of the mushrooms. During fruiting, we recommend (6800-9000k) of light for optimum production.

Humidity

Defined as the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere. Dryness in the fruiting room leads to mushrooms cracking open. Maintain relative humidity at (80-90%) to facilitate smooth and tender growing mushrooms.

Carbon (IV) Oxide (CO2)

CO2 is highly produced during the growing stage of mushroom production, this should be replaced by fresh air always. CO2 should be managed under (800ppm) by proper ventration means at all times. More CO2 in the production room leads to long and thin growth of mushrooms which are of low quality and hard to market.

You should know that all these factors will depend on what variety you cultivate. Acquire more information for every variety.
